Overview
Pure-Flo® Supreme B81 by Oil-Dri is a surface-modified bleaching adsorbent developed for fats, edible oils and specialty oil-processing applications. It is designed to provide a practical balance of adsorption activity and filtration performance, particularly where moderate color and chlorophyll reduction are important.
Supreme B81 can adsorb selected metals and polar impurities while helping reduce color bodies, chlorophyll, soaps and phospholipid-related contaminants from compatible oils. Its filtration characteristics are designed to support long filtration cycles with reduced pressure buildup near the end of the cycle.

Bleaching-earth dosage and operating conditions depend on the incoming oil, contaminant profile, required finished-oil specification, filtration equipment, temperature, vacuum, residence time and downstream process requirements.
Oil-Dri's published laboratory example for degummed sunflower oil used the following conditions:
