Attasorb® 16/30 LVM Granular Attapulgite Sorbent & Filter Media
Attasorb® 16/30 LVM is a thermally activated, granular attapulgite mineral manufactured by Clariant for industrial sorption, filtration and formulation applications. The LVM (Low Volatile Matter) grade combines good sorptivity with high particle strength and is supplied in a coarse 16/30 mesh particle size.
In liquid-treatment applications, granular Attasorb® LVM can be used in compatible static-bed and cartridge systems to help decolorize, deodorize and remove water, surfactants and other more-polar impurities from organic liquids. The product is also used as a highly sorptive, inert granular carrier in agricultural formulations.
Sorbents Direct supplies Attasorb® 16/30 LVM for commercial and industrial requirements with bulk pricing, freight coordination and manufacturer documentation support.

LVM – Low Volatile Matter
Attasorb® LVM is a thermally activated form of granular attapulgite. Clariant characterizes LVM products as having good sorptivity and a high level of particle strength. This combination is useful where the media must retain granular integrity during handling and use while providing useful sorptive performance.
LVM and RVM grades should not be treated as interchangeable solely on the basis of particle size. Volatile-matter classification, particle strength, sorptivity and the requirements of the specific process should all be considered when selecting a grade.
Liquid Purification & Filtration
Clariant identifies thermally activated Attasorb® LVM granular sorbents for the treatment of a variety of organic liquids. Depending on the process, these materials can help decolorize, deodorize and remove surfactants, water and other more-polar impurities.
Granular Attasorb® grades are particularly suited to static-bed and cartridge applications. Performance depends on the target liquid, contaminant profile, media loading, flow conditions, contact time and equipment configuration.
Agricultural Carrier Applications
Attasorb® LVM is also used as a solid, inert carrier for agricultural liquid and low-melting active ingredients. The granular mineral rapidly absorbs spray-applied liquids to support dry, free-flowing formulations. Clariant also identifies the LVM grade's harder granules and controlled release behavior as useful characteristics in agricultural formulations.
Attasorb® 16/30 vs. Finer Attapulgite Grades
Attasorb® 16/30 LVM occupies the coarser end of granular attapulgite media. Particle size should be selected according to the treatment method rather than assuming that a finer grade will provide better performance.
| Particle Profile | General Process Consideration |
|---|---|
| 16/30 Mesh | Coarse granular media suited to compatible static-bed, cartridge and granular sorption applications. |
| 30/60 Mesh | Smaller granular media providing a different balance of surface contact, permeability and filtration behavior. |
| 60/90 Mesh | Finer media providing greater relative particle surface exposure with correspondingly different filtration and flow behavior. |
These particle-size ranges should not be interpreted as direct performance equivalents across different attapulgite products. Mineral source, processing, activation and physical properties can differ by grade.
Quality Assurance
Attasorb® is manufactured by Clariant as a processed attapulgite mineral product. Product qualification should be based on the current manufacturer documentation for the exact supplied grade and on validation under the customer's actual operating conditions.
Lot-specific or manufacturer documentation can be provided where available to support purchasing, receiving and qualification requirements.
Packaging & Availability
Attasorb® 16/30 LVM is available from Sorbents Direct for commercial and industrial quantities. Contact us for current packaging, pallet quantities, production-volume pricing and freight options.
For larger requirements, provide the quantity and ship-to ZIP code so we can calculate the most practical delivered configuration.
Handling & Storage
Store Attasorb® in a dry, protected location and keep packaging closed when not in use to minimize moisture pickup and contamination. Avoid unnecessary generation of airborne mineral dust during transfer and handling.
Consult the current manufacturer Safety Data Sheet before use and follow appropriate workplace engineering controls, handling practices and personal protective equipment requirements.

Sorbents Direct can provide available manufacturer documentation for Attasorb® 16/30 LVM, including current SDS and technical documentation as available. For process evaluation, send us the application, current media, required quantity and operating conditions.
Questions & Answers
What is Attasorb® 16/30 LVM?
Attasorb® 16/30 LVM is a thermally activated, granular attapulgite mineral manufactured by Clariant. It combines good sorptivity with high particle strength and is supplied in a 16/30 mesh particle-size grade.
What does LVM mean?
LVM means Low Volatile Matter. Attasorb® LVM is thermally activated and is designed to provide useful sorptive performance together with high granular particle strength.
What is Attasorb® 16/30 LVM used for?
Applications include organic-liquid purification, static-bed and cartridge treatment systems, industrial sorption and agricultural carrier formulations. Suitability depends on the specific process and target impurity.
Can Attasorb® remove water from organic liquids?
Clariant identifies water, surfactants and other more-polar impurities among the materials that Attasorb® LVM can help remove from compatible organic liquids. Actual removal performance depends on the liquid, contaminant loading and treatment conditions.
Is Attasorb® 16/30 the same as Microsorb® 16/30?
No assumption of equivalence should be made based only on mineral type and mesh size. Attasorb® and Microsorb® are separate Clariant product families. Compare the exact grades using current manufacturer specifications and process testing before substituting one product for another.
Can Sorbents Direct supply production quantities?
Yes. Sorbents Direct supports commercial and industrial requirements. Contact us with the required quantity and ship-to ZIP code for current pricing, availability and freight options.
