Important spent-earth warning: Bleaching earth used with unsaturated vegetable oils, fish oil, or other unsaturated organic compounds can retain oil and may generate heat or spontaneously combust if improperly handled. Follow the current SDS, plant procedures, and applicable disposal requirements. Do not allow spent filter cake to accumulate in a manner that traps heat.
When purging oil from spent filter cake, excessive blowing with air can increase the combustion risk. The Oil-Dri SDS recommends using appropriate controls, including limiting air blowing or using nitrogen where suitable. Spent material must be managed according to the oil processed and all applicable environmental and safety regulations.
