SILIPORITE® NK 10 AP from Arkema is a synthetic Type A zeolite molecular sieve powder supplied in potassium-sodium aluminosilicate form.
With an effective pore opening of approximately 4 angstroms, it functions as a versatile 4A molecular sieve for adsorbing water and other sufficiently small compatible molecules. Its fine powdered form disperses into coatings, sealants, resins and chemical formulations where in-situ moisture control helps reduce foaming, gassing, blistering and other water-related processing defects.
For broader pore-size and molecular-sieve selection guidance, see our Molecular Sieves for Industrial Drying & Purification guide or compare 3A vs. 4A vs. 5A molecular sieves .

How powdered 4A molecular sieve works
| Property | Process relevance |
|---|---|
| Approximately 4 Å pores | Allows water and certain other small compatible molecules to enter the zeolite structure while excluding larger molecules. |
| Powdered form | Supports direct incorporation into compatible paints, coatings, sealants, epoxies and chemical formulations. |
| High water capacity | Provides in-situ moisture scavenging under relatively low-humidity conditions. |
| Controlled particle size | Supports more consistent dispersion and formulation behavior when suitable mixing equipment is used. |
| Broader adsorption window than 3A | May adsorb some small molecules in addition to water, making application testing important when selectivity is critical. |
Why does 4A vs. 3A matter?
Molecular-sieve grade describes pore-size selectivity - not product quality. NK 10 AP uses an approximately 4 Å pore structure, while 3A grades use a smaller approximately 3 Å opening. See our 3A vs. 4A vs. 5A comparison for the broader relationship between the common molecular-sieve grades.
SILIPORITE NK 10 AP vs. NK 30 AP
| Selection factor | NK 10 AP | NK 30 AP |
|---|---|---|
| Molecular sieve type | 4A | 3A |
| Effective pore opening | Approximately 4 Å | Approximately 3 Å |
| Relative selectivity | Broader adsorption of water and certain other small molecules | More selective for water because many larger molecules are excluded |
| Published water capacity | ≥23 wt.% at 10% RH and 23°C | ≥21.5 wt.% at 10% RH and 23°C |
| Typical starting point | Polyurethane, metallic-pigment paint, epoxy and chemical-reaction applications | Insulating glass and applications where stronger water selectivity or low nitrogen desorption is important |
Actual grade selection depends on formulation chemistry, target moisture, other small molecules present, finished-product requirements and process conditions.

4A molecular sieve powder vs. molecular sieve beads
NK 10 AP and conventional 4A molecular-sieve beads use the same broad pore-size concept but serve very different physical process configurations. Powdered molecular sieve is incorporated directly into compatible formulations, while beads are typically retained inside dryers, vessels or packed adsorption beds through which a gas or liquid stream passes.
| Selection factor | NK 10 AP Powder | 4A Beads |
|---|---|---|
| Physical form | Fine powder | Granular / beaded media |
| Typical use | Direct incorporation into compatible formulations | Fixed-bed gas or liquid drying |
| Media recovery | Generally remains incorporated in the formulation | Physically retained inside the adsorption vessel |
| Primary design variables | Dispersion, loading, formulation chemistry and moisture target | Bed depth, flow, pressure drop, cycle time and regeneration |

Application and trial guidance
- Evaluate performance using the actual resin, pigment, solvent, coating, sealant, epoxy or chemical formulation.
- Confirm compatibility with viscosity, pot life, cure behavior, adhesion, appearance, gloss and mechanical performance.
- Add using suitable mixing and dust-control equipment to achieve uniform dispersion.
- Minimize exposure to ambient humidity before and during incorporation into the formulation.
- Optimize dosage based on incoming moisture, target residual water, formulation chemistry and process conditions.
- For polyurethane systems, verify foam reduction, cure response, adhesion and finished-product properties.
- For metallic-pigment paints, evaluate gassing, package stability, pigment compatibility and film appearance.
- For low-temperature epoxies, verify cure rate, surface quality, adhesion and long-term performance.
- For chemical reactions, evaluate both water removal and possible adsorption of other small process molecules.
Qualification note: Arkema recommends thoroughly testing the product in the proposed application before commercialization. Performance depends on formulation chemistry, dosage, mixing, moisture loading, processing conditions and end-use requirements.

Questions & answers
What is SILIPORITE NK 10 AP?
SILIPORITE NK 10 AP is a powdered synthetic Type A zeolite manufactured by Arkema. Its potassium-sodium aluminosilicate structure provides an effective pore opening of approximately 4 angstroms.
Is NK 10 AP a 4A molecular sieve?
Yes. Its approximately 4 Å pore opening allows it to adsorb water and certain other compatible small molecules while excluding larger molecules.
What is its water adsorption capacity?
The Arkema specification lists a minimum water adsorption capacity of 23 wt.% at 10% relative humidity and 23°C ±2°C.
What is the particle size?
The specification permits no more than 2 wt.% of the powder to be retained on a 20 µm mesh, meaning at least approximately 98% passes through that screen under the stated test method.
How is 4A different from 3A molecular sieve powder?
A 4A molecular sieve has a larger pore opening and may adsorb some small molecules in addition to water. A 3A molecular sieve is more selective for water because its smaller pores exclude more compounds. See our 3A vs. 4A vs. 5A molecular-sieve guide for a broader comparison.
What is the difference between molecular sieve powder and beads?
Molecular-sieve powder such as NK 10 AP is designed for direct incorporation into compatible formulations and chemical processes. Molecular-sieve beads are typically retained inside fixed adsorption beds through which a gas or liquid stream passes. The correct physical form depends on the process configuration.
Can it be used in polyurethane systems?
Yes. Arkema identifies polyurethane paints, coatings and sealants as applications for SILIPORITE NK 10 AP.
Can it be used with metallic pigments?
Arkema specifically identifies paints based on metallic pigments such as zinc and aluminum as an application. The complete formulation should be tested for gassing, stability, cure and finished-film performance.
Can it be used in epoxy formulations?
Arkema identifies epoxy resins curing at low temperature as an application. Formulation testing should confirm cure behavior, adhesion, appearance and mechanical properties.
Can it be used in chemical reactions?
Arkema identifies water adsorption in chemical-equilibrium reactions as an application. Suitability and selectivity should be verified using the actual reaction mixture.
What package size is available?
The current Sorbents Direct listing offers a 1,000 kg pallet containing fifty 20 kg bags.
Are smaller quantities available?
This product is currently offered as a palletized 1,000 kg order. Smaller individual bags are not listed at this time. Contact Sorbents Direct if you need an alternative quantity or package configuration reviewed.
What documentation is available?
The Arkema Product Data Sheet and applicable Safety Data Sheet are available. A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis may also be requested when available.
